An overview, highlighting my interest in Allergy

Dr Adrian Morris was an NHS General Practitioner in Surrey with a special interest in Allergic Diseases. He has been in clinical General Practice for 20 years and has 12 years of allergy experience. Adrian currently also works part-time as a Clinical Assistant in Allergy at the NHS Allergy Clinic at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

He is a Member of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) and the European Academy for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) as well as being an International Affiliate Member of the American College for Allergy Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI). Adrian has recently set up several allergy clinics in private hospitals and clinics in London and Surrey and is an Allergy Consultant to the BBC Online Health Internet website, the World Allergy Organisation website and the UCB Institute of Allergy in Belgium.

Allergy is a fascinating area of clinical medicine, which involves everything from complicated immunology and exciting new allergen research to practical aspects of day to day allergy management including allergen avoidance and desensitisation. Adrian has an interest in many aspects of allergy practice including Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis, Eczema, Urticaria, Insect Sting Allergy and Allergy to Medication. His area of special interest is that of Food Allergy and Additive Intolerance, an area of great controversy and heated debate.

Adrian has written a number of review articles and booklets on allergy, explored the role of complementary medicine, developed patient education aids and attended a number of international allergy congresses. He has participated in radio discussions, public and professional presentations on allergy and has a special interest in developing allergy websites and databases. He holds a Diploma in Allergology from the College of Medicine of South Africa and occasionally conducts Allergy Clinics and clinical trials in Cape Town where he is a part-time Consultant at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute and Red Cross Children's Hospital.  Adrian is involved with the Allergy Society of South Africa as an Executive Committee member.  In 2002 he was awarded the prestigious Media Award by the European Academy for Allergy and Clinical Immunology for the Best Lay Media Publication on Allergy.

Did you know......

The Brompton Hospital was established as the Hospital for Consumption (Tuberculosis) and Diseases of the Chest in 1841 by Philip Rose, a London Solicitor. From 1843 students visited the wards, and by 1851 lectures were held by the first visiting physician, Dr Theophilus Thompson. In the 1870s regular teaching was undertaken through lectures and demonstrations. This was expanded in 1894, and the hospital recognised by the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons.
